Ferris wheel clock

Ferris wheel clock

The Ferris Wheel Clock was built by Martin Long in Leeming Western Australia. The clock is gravity driven by a constant number of steel balls. Each time one ball falls at the bottom another replaces it from the top. A dc motor connected to a spiral worm gear and microswitches drives one ball up the right hand side every 15 minutes. The clock is predominantly made from brass and steel but it also has an aluminium dial and a titanium escape wheel. A price cannot be placed on this first timepiece but another could be made for $30,000 over at least a six month period. The final product will be encased in a glass case for protection against dust.
